Polarization intensity p as a function of electric field strength e

The relationship between the polarization intensity P and the electric field strength E is linear, i.e., P = χεE, where P is the polarization intensity, χ is the polarization of the dielectric, ε is the dielectric constant in the vacuum, and E is the electric field strength vector.

In isotropic linear dielectrics, the polarization intensity of the dielectric is linearly related to the strength of the electric field, and there is no influence of higher order terms due to the change of the intensity of the electric field.
